Our members are nursing professional development practitioners and associates who work in a variety of healthcare settings in Washington state. Membership is open to those engaged in development of nurses and other healthcare workers.

We are a non-profit affiliate of the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD).

The purpose of ANPDWA is to promote and advance nursing professional development and its practitioners within Washington State via education, collaboration, advocacy, and connection.

The objectives of ANPDWA are to:
  • Provide for the sharing of educational information and resources.
  • Encourage communication through the local, state, and national arenas.
  • Provide and promote continuing education among health care personnel.
  • Act as a resource for other health care professionals and organizations.
  • Promote, utilize and engage in educational research to improve the practice and effectiveness of professional development.
  • Support networking and mentoring among its members.

What does a Board Director Do?

A director's activities depends on the position held, although all directors support and collaborate with each other.

What is an ANPDWA Board Director?

A Board Director is a member of the affiliate who serves on the ANPDWA Board. The board and its directors' duties and responsibilities include supervising affiliate activities to include financial accountability, and serving the interests of the ANPDWA member base.

Each Board Director has voting privileges on any recommendations brought before the Board with the exception of the immediate past President.

Board directors must maintain membership in ANPD national and ANPDWA while serving.

How many hours will I need to work as a Board Director?

As this is a volunteer position, The affiliate makes every attempt to minimize the burden of work by utilizing technology and web conferencing platforms and keeping meeting to those only necessary to achieve affiliate work. The number of hours of commitment may increase around certain times, such as preparing for affiliate activities at the ANPD national conventions, and preparation before webinar presentations.

On average the Directors report spending 4 - 5 hours per month on affiliate activities.

Can I nominate myself for a Director position?

Yes!  Self nomination reflects a passion for the profession and a desire to contribute as an NPD practitioner advocate.
You may also nominate someone who you feel may contribute to the board, just be sure to let them know!

To be eligible for nomination, you must be an active current member of ANPD National & the ANPDWA affiliate.

How long does a Board Director serve?

All elected Board Directors serve a term of two years, with the exception of the Vice-president who serves three years: one as vice president, one as president and one as immediate past president

What are the benefits of serving as a Board Director?

Apart from working with a great team of NPD Practitioners?..😁

If you have never served in a organizational position, you gain experience in agenda setting, decision making, and activities supervision. In addition:

You will experience state wide networking with fellow educators and NPD practitioners to share ideas and information

You will have the opportunity to gain skills in team work, affiliate work, presentation skills, social media and marketing skills

You will grow your experience in NPD advocacy to colleagues and organizations

If you are a digital immigrant, you will gain technology skills with basic web page design, newsletter design, webinar hosting, and basic accounting
